Coravin
Wine by the glass, without removing the cork
Last updated on 30th September 2026
About Coravin
Wine preservation devices let a drinker pour a glass from an unopened bottle without pulling the cork, aimed at collectors, sommeliers and anyone who wants a glass tonight without committing to the rest of the bottle. Restaurants and wine bars use the systems for by-the-glass service, and home drinkers use them to keep bottles going for weeks or years rather than days.
The core range runs from Timeless, which pierces natural corks with a thin needle and can keep wine fresh for months or, on some claims, decades, through to Pivot, which replaces the closure entirely with a stopper and suits screwcap, synthetic cork or glass-stoppered bottles for up to four weeks. Sparkling is built specifically for champagne and other sparkling wines, using a stopper and CO2 charger rather than argon, and preserves bubbles for at least four weeks. Timeless Six+ adds an aerator and a wider colour range, including Silver, Piano Black and Burgundy finishes. Pure Argon Capsules power the Timeless and Pivot systems, and needles come in Standard, Fast Pour, Vintage and Premium types, alongside accessories such as the Screwcap Adapter and Bottle Sleeve.
The systems work by pressurising the bottle with inert argon gas, which pushes wine out through a needle while keeping the remaining contents untouched by oxygen, a method distinct from stoppers that only seal a bottle after it has already been opened and exposed to air. Coravin was founded by Greg Lambrecht, and the systems are sold directly through coravin.co.uk as well as through wine merchants and hospitality suppliers.

Questions about Coravin
How long does the Coravin Timeless keep wine fresh?
The Timeless system pours wine through the cork without removing it, so the remaining wine can stay fresh for weeks, months or even over 20 years. It works with natural corks and, using the supplied adapter, with screwcap bottles too.
How long does the Coravin Pivot keep an opened bottle fresh?
Pivot replaces the original closure with a specially designed stopper, letting it work with any bottle type including cork, synthetic, screwcap and glass. It preserves opened wine for up to four weeks.
Does the Coravin Sparkling system work with still wine?
No, the Sparkling system is designed only for sparkling wine bottles, which are built to hold high pressure, and using it on a still wine bottle is dangerous. It keeps sparkling wine and its bubbles fresh for at least four weeks once fitted after the bottle has been popped and poured from as normal.
How many pours does a Coravin Pure Argon Capsule give?
Each capsule gives roughly 15 five-ounce glasses with a Timeless system, or about 20 five-ounce glasses with a Pivot system. The capsules are filled with pure argon gas and are made only for still wines, not for use with Coravin Sparkling.
How long does a Coravin needle last before it needs replacing?
A Coravin needle is designed to last well over 500 uses on average without loss of performance, though colder or harder corks may shorten its life. It should be replaced once it bends, breaks, or the dark coating wears off, and several needle types are available including Standard, Fast Pour, Vintage and Premium.
How long does Coravin delivery take?
Orders placed by 12pm on business days are usually shipped that day using DPD Local. Mainland UK deliveries take 1-3 days, while Northern Ireland takes 3-5 working days because of customs requirements.
How do I return a Coravin order?
Systems bought directly from coravin.co.uk can be returned within sixty days of the purchase date if not completely satisfied. Customers need to contact customer service to receive a return merchandise authorisation number before sending the item back, and the purchase price is refunded excluding original shipping charges.
What does the Coravin warranty cover?
Coravin devices are covered for two years from the date of purchase against defects in materials and workmanship, with Coravin choosing to repair or replace faulty units. The warranty does not cover any loss of or damage to wine used with the device.
Can I change or cancel a Coravin order after placing it?
Once an order has been placed it cannot be cancelled or changed, so customers are advised to check their order details carefully at checkout. If the item is a Coravin System, it can still be returned afterwards under the standard return policy.
What happens if my Coravin order arrives damaged?
If damage is spotted before accepting delivery, customers should refuse the package and contact customer service straight away. If it is only noticed after opening, they should contact Coravin immediately with the order number and a photograph of the damage.

Alternatives to Coravin - Food & Drink market
- Wikeeps A French inert-gas cartridge system that pierces the cork like the Timeless, with compatible capsules running cheaper than Coravin's own argon canisters.
- Private Preserve A spray-in blend of nitrogen, carbon dioxide and argon for a bottle already uncorked, far cheaper but only useful once the cork is out and good for days to weeks rather than years.
- Vacu Vin A hand-pump vacuum stopper bought once for a few pounds, but it only slows oxidation for up to ten days and still requires pulling the cork.
- Savino Wine Preserver A glass decanter-and-stopper combination that needs no gas refills at all, though it only keeps an opened bottle drinkable for a matter of days.
- Enomatic A cabinet-style multi-bottle dispenser used by wine bars and restaurants for by-the-glass service, a larger fixed investment suited to volume pouring rather than a single bottle at home.
