About Wingly
An online platform connecting passengers with private pilots for sightseeing flights, day trips and helicopter tours across the UK and Europe. Bookings run through the Wingly website, where flights are searched by departure airfield and paid for in advance, with the pilot confirming within 48 hours of a request.
Flights depart from airfields near London, Portsmouth, Blackpool, Newcastle, Newquay, Liverpool, Leeds, Bournemouth and Brighton, among others, taking in landmarks such as the Angel of the North, St Michael's Mount and the Isle of Wight. Most trips fly in single-engine aircraft seating two to six people including the pilot, and range from short 20 to 30 minute sightseeing hops to longer outings such as the Hadrian's Wall Heritage Helicopter Tour or a day trip to Alderney. Wingly Pro adds flights operated by commercial partners rather than private pilots. Gift cards can be bought for a set flight amount or a custom sum, sent digitally or by post, and stay valid for a year with the option to extend.
Wingly's distinction is its cost-sharing model: private pilots flying for their own reasons offset fuel, aircraft rental and landing fees by taking passengers along, rather than running flights commercially for profit. The platform was founded in France in 2015 by Emeric de Waziers, Bertrand Joab-Cornu and Lars Klein, and now operates across multiple European countries with pilots verified before joining.

Questions about Wingly
Can I bring luggage on a Wingly flight?
Yes, luggage is allowed, but light aircraft have strict weight limits, so you need to give accurate luggage and passenger weight details when booking. The pilot then checks whether the total weight meets safety requirements.
What kind of aircraft will I fly in with Wingly?
Most pilots operate single-engine aircraft seating between two and six people including the pilot, and the exact model is listed in each flight's details.
What's the difference between a private pilot flight and a Wingly Pro flight?
Private pilot flights are cost-shared, non-profit trips flown by pilots in their spare time, while Wingly Pro flights are offered by commercial operators on a revenue basis and are subject to commercial aviation rules.
How is the price of a Wingly shared-cost flight worked out?
The price covers a contribution to direct costs such as fuel, aircraft rental and landing fees, plus VAT and Wingly's service fees.
Can I tip my Wingly pilot?
No, tipping isn't allowed because private pilots are legally not permitted to profit from flights, so Wingly uses a secure payment system to split costs fairly between pilot and passengers.
Can I cancel my Wingly flight booking?
For cost-sharing flights you may cancel up to 24 hours before departure, and you'll receive the full amount as a refundable Wingly gift card, minus Wingly's service fee. For Wingly Pro flights, cancellations are not allowed once the operator has confirmed the booking.
What happens if the pilot cancels my Wingly flight?
If the pilot cancels and no alternative date can be arranged, you'll automatically get a cancellation confirmation, and Wingly will try to find another pilot in the region. If you don't want another flight, you'll receive the full amount as a refundable gift card, minus the service fee.
What payment methods can I use to book a Wingly flight?
Bookings can be paid for using a gift card, credit card, or PayPal. Payment is taken upfront and held by Wingly until the flight takes place.
How long is a Wingly gift card valid and can it be extended?
Gift cards are valid for one year from purchase, and can be extended as many times as you like, with each extension adding six months. Gift cards themselves are non-refundable.
What if the Wingly pilot doesn't show up at the meeting point?
You should contact the pilot using the personal details in your booking, and if there's no response within 30 minutes, head home and email Wingly's support team, who will investigate and find a solution.
